Marine John Sherman has returned from a Miami hospital
Where he underwent extensive surgery. He is recuperating at home. Please give Him your support in every possible manner". Sgt Maj. Fratterelli is in constant touch with him and can provide up to date information On his condition.
 Englewood, Fl   On Veterans Day The good people of Englewood dedicated a new Veterans memorial complete with Eternal Flame. It is located in Englewood Cemetery at the corner of 776 And 2nd. Ave. For those of you that would like to Visit. God Bless our Veterans.     Semper Fi  
As usual there will be no regular July League meeting.
There will however be a social gathering at 1700, 5 July 2011 at Donato's restaurant  (764-1600) route 41 in Port Charlotte

League members will be manning a booth at the Port Charlotte Cultural Center's  "Christmas in July"
Program. 8 , 9, 10 July 2011 from 0900 each day.

During 8, 9, 10 July 2011 the Port Charlotte Cultural Center will hold its annual
Christmas in July event. The League will have a Toys for Toys booth at the center

On 24 July the "Looney Bin" restaurant in Port Charlotte will hold "Toys for tots
Bike run". Further detail will be provided as they become available

This year's birthday ball will be held on 10 November 2011  At the Kingsway country club in Lake Suzy. 13625 S.W. Kingsway Circle  In Lake Suzy Florida   941-625-8898 (take Kings highway in Port Charlotte north go across the Desoto county line to Kingsway circle). 

Dinner choices will be Steak, Chicken and Talapia. There will be a cocktail hour

Marine Corps League Mid-Winter National Staff Conference will be held February 16, 17 and 18, 2012 at the Tysons Corner Marriott in Vienna, VA. The rate for rooms are 95.00 per night, single or double
At the recent League conference, a  uniform change was voted.
Henceforth the Khaki shirt is no longer considered  to be a
Legal League uniform. Only white shirts may be worn for League functions.  Any updates to this rule will be reported as they are received!

The  Ft McCoy VFW veterans home in Ocala Florida has openings for
Veterans and their families. A veteran and his spouse can stay there
For approximately $1600.00/month.

  Veterans, and veterans next of kin,  who have access to a computer, and want  to access their DD214 on line can do so by  clicking on (www.vetrecs.archives.gov)                                                                                                                                                             

Members are reminded that they can participate in the League's blood program. Members wanting to participate in this program, or who need details concerning  this program, should contact Marine Saxton.

Volunteers are sorely needed for the color guard, and the firing squad. Marines wishing to volunteer, please contact, the Commandant. The Firing Squad will hold practice at American Legion Post  # 103 the first Saturday in May after the league breakfast at approximately 1000. 

Veterans receiving disability may qualify for an additional $5000 Homestead Exemption. For information, call the County Tax Collectors Office.

League members are encouraged to look at the events on the Marine Corps League State web site at: www.mclfl.org. Information on conventions, League coming events, and general information can be found there.
